For some reason, I have been feeling my anxiety disorder intensely this past week. I am almost certain that it is because I have had to put myself in many uncomfortable situations, and as every panic attack or anxiety disorder sufferer, you know that it is those exact situations that make you feel the most anxious.
It is when we are out of our comfort zone that we begin to fear the unknown.
Don’t Avoid Situations
However, as much as I was terrified to feel those awful panic attack and anxiety disorder symptoms, I knew that I wanted to go out, but more so, that I needed to. The worst thing that you can do to yourself is avoid situations. This is not a way to learn how to cope with anxiety, and avoiding situations because of your nerves will actually work against your progress.
So, I ignored my rising temperature, cotton-dry mouth and palpitating heart and went out anyway. This is what you have to do. You just have to do it. Learning how to cope with anxiety is all about going and doing the things that cause you to experience panic attacks and anxious feelings.
You Need To Just Go For It
If there is any advice that you need, it should come from a Nike ad – ‘ Just Do It ‘
On the contrary, I understand that this isn’t realistic for everyone wanting to learn how to cope with anxiety, and many people need to approach their fears and panic attacks in smaller steps. However, I want you to think about the concept of ‘Just Do It’. Just imagine, if you ‘Just Do It’, your anxiety will instantly get better, and you will overcome your panic attacks.
How, you ask?
You Learn How To Cope With Anxiety When Having It
If you ‘Just Do It’, you may have panic attacks or anxious feelings, but you will learn that you can get through them. You will survive. Your panic attacks will stop. Everything you are feeling is just a feeling. Although it may be uncomfortable when you have those anxious thoughts as you put yourself out there, you will have just as much joy knowing that you did it, and you got through it!
So, even if you are starting to approach your anxiety disorder and panic attacks in smaller steps, keep the big picture in mind. You need to meet your feelings face to face. You will have to be anxious to be able to learn how to cope with anxiety. Once you no longer fear those feelings, they will dissipate, and you won’t stop fearing them until you realize that your anxiety disorder symptoms are okay and you will be fine. Just take deep breaths and give yourself a couple of minutes to relax.
Your panic attacks will end. They always do. You need to learn how to cope with anxiety in order to make it possible for them to get easier.
I highly encourage you to take the ‘Just Do It’ approach, and to never, or at the very least, try not to avoid situations that cause your nerves to go crazy.
