Ever found yourself nervously triple-checking locks, jumping at every little creek, or sprinting to your bed after flicking off the lights? Being home alone can sometimes feel like you’re starring in your own spooky movie! But fear not —this article is your go-to guide for calming anxiety about being home alone. We’ll dive into easy, reassuring strategies, from installing home security cameras to using calming self-care goodies like cozy gift baskets, calming fidget rings, and some crystals for anxiety and sleep-related fears.
Scared of Being Home Alone
Feeling anxious and scared about being home alone is incredibly common. The fear often originates from past experiences or even the narratives seen in the media. Feelings of isolation and vulnerability amplify fears, creating a sense that you’re defenseless. Recognizing these triggers is the first step toward overcoming anxiety.
How Home Security Cameras Reduce Anxiety About Being Home Alone
Home security cameras provide psychological reassurance by allowing you to monitor your surroundings in real-time. They offer tangible proof of your safety, significantly reducing feelings of vulnerability. Knowing you have a layer of protection, even symbolically, can drastically improve your mental peace.
Eliminates The Fear of the Unknown
If you have someone coming to babysit your kids and this makes you anxious (as it does for most of us parents), having an indoor security camera allows you check in on them whenever you want. The same can be said for your pets or your prized possessions! You can always check in and see what’s going on.
Calming Parents Anxiety When Kids Are Playing Out of Sight
Depending on the age of your children, you may allow them to play in a different room by themselves or with their siblings or friends. Having the camera set up allows you to check in whenever you want. Plus, they won’t hear you creeping up the stairs. So, you’ll actually know what is going on when you aren’t around.
Soothing Sleep Anxiety
Every parent can relate to worrying about their child as they sleep. You may even worry so much that you find yourself staying awake just to check on them because the anxiety becomes so unbearable if you don’t. For this particular situation, using a home security camera to calm anxiety is a great option. The camera I used, which I will talk about in just a moment, has night vision. So, you can watch your little one sleep without having to get yourself out of bed – or worse, risk waking them up in the middle of the night.
Feeling Safe When You’re Home Alone
Another situation where I found using a home security camera to calm anxiety so effective is for when I’m home alone. Being left alone in the home as a female can come with plenty of anxiety. The slightest creek of a door can make your nerves jump. I used to have a security system which alerted me every time a door or window opened. I also have a doorbell camera so I know who is on the other side at all times.
The Live Notifications Keeps You Aware
The live notifications are key to using a home security camera to calm anxiety. This feature reassured that I knew what was going on as it was going on. This allowed me to take action if needed.
Additionally, when you know you’ll receive a notification anytime there’s movement, you can put your worries at ease when you aren’t receiving any. This helped specifically for eliminating the “what ifs” that plague us warriors.
The 360 Degree Scan Gave Me Full Perspective
Being able to control the camera from my iPhone was a huge benefit. I could tune into the camera to watch my dogs, even when they were running all over the place. I would just tap on the arrow keys to shift the lens as needed.
The Intercom Option Gives You Control
An intercom option where you can talk through the camera. This is exceptionally helpful for parents with anxiety or who want to keep a close eye on their children.
The Cloud Gave Gives Extra Reassurance
There are times when anxiety doesn’t necessarily happen right away. Sometimes, you have a super normal day, only to later find out that a package was delivered but isn’t on your front porch, or a window was left open, or your front door was unlocked all day. Having a home security system with a cloud service saves your videos, so you can go back and see what happened anytime your security camera picked up motion or sound.
Night Vision Calms Night Time Nerves
Using night vision on a home security camera to calm anxiety goes without saying. Darkness can be scary; having the option to see what’s going on even in the night time is a great advantage. I found this feature to be particularly beneficial for soothing sleep anxiety.
Choosing the Right Home Security System to Feel Secure
When selecting a home security system, opt for devices with features like night vision, two-way audio, and mobile app integration. These provide both real-time reassurance and proactive security measures, ensuring you feel comfortable even when home alone at night.
Choosing cameras with advanced network security also helps protect against hacking, ensuring your private moments remain confidential. Good network security means peace of mind knowing your home remains secure from digital intrusions as well.
With thoughtful strategies, self-care, and supportive items like home security cameras and fidget rings, you can transform your experience of being home alone from fear-filled to peaceful. Remember, you’re never truly alone. You have the power within you to cultivate resilience, comfort, and peace.
